We’re all guilty of wanting to buy a new outfit for every occasion or the classic saying “I don’t have anything to wear” when in fact, you actually have a closet full of clothes. However, it is not healthy for the environment or your wallet to have a new outfit every time.

That’s why we’ve started this series exploring all the different ways you can wear an item. We hope to not only give you some inspiration to make your current wardrobe more versatile, but also to help you take a stand against the excessive amounts of clothing waste created every year caused by our disposable culture.

Sustainable Fashion

Today we’re going to be styling a classic – the Vintage Band T-shirt. We got ours second hand from Facebook marketplace, but you could sub in any oversized t-shirt you have.

Our first look is a play on the athleisure trend. As much as you could wear this outfit to workout, you could also wear it to get brunch, go shopping, run errands … the possibilities are endless. All you need is some simple bike shorts and a classic pair of sneakers. Pair it with some gold accessories and you are ready to go.

Ethical Fashion

What is something that everyone has in their wardrobe? Denim Jeans. Here we’ve paired the vintage band tee with blue jeans and some simple heels for an effortlessly chic look. Or throw on some straight black jeans and sneakers to put more of a casual spin on it.

For our fourth look we took some cut off shorts and cowboy boots for the ultimate summer outfit. These shorts could easily be thrifted even if you were to DIY a pair of longer jeans, any option would work. Pair it with some gold jewelry and a cowboy hat and you are ready to hit up the next festival.

Last but not least, we tucked the tee into a cute mini skirt (this one is from our favourite sustainable brand Derf Avenue) and paired it with some heels to create a simple but sweet night time look. You could even pair this with some sneakers for the day-time friendly version.

If you want to recreate any of these outfits but don’t have some of the pieces head to the Op Shop or jump on one of the many resale apps like Facebook marketplace or Depop! Honestly, you can pick up some great finds that are often half the price or less, all whilst minimising the impact your wardrobe has on the environment.

Happy styling fam!
